Earn a Free Live-Animal Education Program
Nothing tops the experience of seeing a live animal. In classrooms and clubs all over Kitsap County, kids have been awe-struck by their meetings with Orion, Athena, Yukon, Ed, and Ebeneezer, the educational ambassadors of the West Sound Wildlife Shelter. These two owls, hawk, and crows excel at getting kids excited about the natural world.
In a one-hour presentation, a naturalist from the West Sound Wildlife Shelter will share information about life in the wild, rehabilitation, and birds in general. Best of all, the kids can ask questions and direct their own learning.
Defray Program Costs
Typically, an education program costs $100 - $250. However, during the fall of 2010, groups can earn a free live-animal program by selling West Sound Wildlife Shelter calendars. Any group in Kitsap County that sells 40 or more calendars will automatically earn a free program (on a mutually-agreeable date.) For example, the kids could sell calendars in front of a grocery store and potentially sell all 40 calendars in one short afternoon. We’d be happy to organize time in front of a grocery store.
About the Calendars
The calendars feature photos of wild animal patients at the West Sound Wildlife Shelter. They also have month-by-month wildlife information and tips on ways to help wildlife. Each calendar costs $10.
If you would like to organize calendar sales with your classroom or group, please call Elsa at 206.855.9057 x5 or email elsa@westsoundwildlife.org. We will get the calendars to you and will help you in any way we can.
A Special Honor for the Top Seller
The child in your classroom or club who sells the most calendars will receive a special honor - having his or her photo taken with one of our educational ambassadors! We will arrange to have the photo taken by one of our photographers and will get the print to your classroom/club so you can present it to the winner.
Who are the Educational Ambassadors?
West Sound Wildlife has five educational ambassadors. Orion is a great horned owl. Athena is a barred owl. Yukon, the red-tailed hawk, is the newest member of the educational team. Ed and Ebeneezer, the American crows, work as a team and would visit your lcoation together. Your group can choose which ambassador they'd like to receive a visit from!

About the West Sound Wildlife Shelter
The Shelter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are the only wildlife hospital and education center located in the western Puget Sound. We've been serving the community since 1999. In order to give our wild animal patients the best possible chance at recovery, we are required by law to be closed to the public. It's through our educational programs that we teach future generations about ways to co-exist with wildlife.
