We received nearly 200 entries from students all over the County in the Wildlife Shelter's "Name the Owl Contest" and had a very difficult time choosing the winners. Below are the results and some information about our new ambassador.
Nikki Tatum, a 6th grade student from Gordon Elementary in Kingston, submitted the winning name, Orion.
Four other students were chosen as semi-finalists in the Contest, which was open to elementary students in Kitsap County:
Eleni Walter, a 3rd grade student at Sprouts Little School who submitted the name "Sensei," was the semi-finalist in the Bremerton School District
Leigh Wright, a 4th grade student at Blakely Elementary who submitted the name "Echo," was the semi-finalist in the Bainbridge School District
Shyan Horner, a 4th grade student at Green Mountain Elementary who submitted the name "Spirit," was the semi-finalist from the Central Kitsap School District
Summer Fair, a 5th grade student at Olalla Elementary who submitted the name "Salvando," was the semi-finalist from the South Kitsap School District |

About the Owl This great-horned owl hatched in the spring of 2006 near Lubbock, Texas with a congenital right wing problem, which left him unable to hunt. Upon determining that he couldn’t survive in the wild, the Texas rehabilitation facility decided to find him a home as an educational ambassador. We are glad to report that he came to us on Dec. 6, 2006, to be a part of our education program.
