An Orphaned Newborn

fawnIn June, we took in an orphaned deer fawn that we estimated to be about two weeks old -- so young, its umbilical cord was still attached.  After receiving medical care from All Creatures Animal Hospital, this tiny deer found a safe resting place in our hospital.

West Sound Wildlife isn't currently equipped to care for deer long-term, so our staff set to work finding a rehabilitation center that could care for the deer until she was old enough to release. We found the perfect place at a  center in the San Juan Islands, where the fawn could be raised with other deer.  A few weeks later, the fawn traveled to the San Juans in style, flying by plane (the flight was generously donated by one of our supporters).
