A Reminder to Not Raise Wild Animals

In February, the Shelter received a call from a veterinarian’s office at which a person had just dropped off a raccoon.  This was not a normal raccoon - he had been raised by a human family.  At seven months old, he doesn’t know he’s a raccoon.

It’s illegal to keep a wild animal unless, like us, you have state and federal permits to do so.

This raccoon is a perfect example of why humans should not raise or take in wild animals.  This raccoon can not be released to the wild because he doesn’t know how to live on his own and he is too familiar with humans.  We have no choice put to place him in an education program where he will spend the rest of his life in captivity.
